A six-claw solitaire ring set with round brilliant-cut D-colour moissanite on a band of metal marked 925 sterling silver. Six claws rather than four is the older, sturdier way to hold a solitaire: the claws are spaced evenly around the stone so it is gripped at more points and sits more securely, and because each individual claw can be slimmer, less of the stone's surface is covered. Three stone weights are offered — 1, 2 and 3 carats — across fourteen ring sizes from 4 to 10.5 in half-size steps. D colour is the top of the colourless range, so the stone reads bright white rather than warm or grey. Moissanite is a silicon carbide crystal with a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it throws more coloured fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists the scratching and clouding that dulls cubic zirconia within a year of daily wear.
