The batwing is cut deep — the sleeve joins the body low, near the waist rather than at the shoulder — which gives the drape that makes this style read as a throw-on layer instead of a fitted knit. The lapel is broad enough to fold back and sit flat across the chest, or to be pulled up around the neck when it is cold. There is no fastening: it hangs open by design, which is why the drape of the fabric matters more here than on a buttoned cardigan. The acrylic content gives it loft and helps it hold shape; the polyester keeps it from pilling as readily as a pure acrylic knit would.
