Nylon is the authentic material for this style rather than a cost saving. It is light, wind-resistant and quick to shrug on over anything, which is exactly what the original flight jacket was designed around. It also means this is a wind layer rather than a warm one.
Sizes run Asian, so order one to two sizes up from your usual US size, and allow 2 to 3 cm for manual measurement. The ribbed hem and cuffs pull the jacket in at both ends, so the fit reads closer to the body than the flat measurements suggest.
